The Five Contenders for the 2022 F1 Drivers Championship

 

There are 20 driver's on the F1 grid who can in theory can challenge for the driver's championship but in reality only few will have the machinery to actually challenge for the championship and with the new set of rules coming to effect this year's there might be more than two driver challenging for this year's championship.

 Here are our five choices

 MAX VERSTAPPEN  

The reigning World Champion would surely want to add another championship to his collection and he will be in the position to do so this year with many rumours claiming that the RB18 is already faster than the RB16B which was the car that Verstappen won his championship this year.

Also Verstappen is coming after a fantastic 2021 where he was simply amazing taking the fight to Hamilton and Mercedes proving that he isn't simply the star of the future but of the present as well.But he will also be looking to prove his doubters wrong and show that he is a deserving World Champion.A small fun fact is that Verstappen will have the number 1 this year on his car.

SIR LEWIS HAMILTON 

Lewis Hamilton didn't succeed in winning an 8th title in 2021 narrowly missing out on the win in the final race in one of the most contoversial way's in the history of the sport and that has led to questions whether or not he will return.But Hamilton will return to show why he is one of the greatest of all time and get that 8th title.

His 2021 season was amazing just like Verstappen's they both pushed each other to new level's and i believe we will see that again next season but i have to say that Hamilton on the last four races was on another level and i think that we will see that Hamilton again and he will have a capable car under him for sure so he can challenge for the championship.

GEORGE RUSSELL 

George Russell is next on the list he will be joining Mercedes this year with a lot to prove and will have the car to challenge for the championship, he is one of the future stars a future world champion and who knows this year might be his year.He certainly has the talent to fight for a championship but he will be entering a new team so he will have to take some time to adjust to the new surroundings.

The only question is if Mercedes will let Russell challenge Hamilton because let's not forget this is Hamilton's team and with more team's looking ready to challenge for the championship we have to wonder if Russell will play a supporting role as Bottas or if they will let them race and see if they will recreate the drama that Mercedes had with Hamilton and Rosberg.

CHARLES LECLERC 

Charles Leclerc is the person that Ferrari believe that he will be their next World Champion ending their championship drought from 2007 where Kimi Raikonen won the Championship for Ferrari.Ferrari has invested a lot in the 2022 regulations change and it believes that it is their chance to close the gap to the top and challenge for the championship many reports claim that at Maranello they are really happy with the progression with the car, that they are going to the right direction and that this car is the most aggresive design of Ferrari in the last 3 years.

Now Ferrari has claimed that there will be no Number 1 and Number 2 taht both Leclerc and Sainz will be on equal terms but Ferrari has invested in Leclerc and it is almost certain that if they reach a decision to choose between the two the will choose Leclerc.

Leclerc is a talented driver with incredible speed who can for sure challenge for a championship in the right car having beaten 4 time world champion Sebastian Vettel to become the future of Ferrari we just have to wait and see if he will succeed where other great drivers have failed.

LANDO NORRIS  

Norris is another driver who has been named as a future star and future world champion,Norris will be entering his 4th season in F1 and he has been improving throught his time in F1 and has developed to very fast driver beating this year his more experienced teammate and finishing 6th in the standings.

He achieved four podiums this year one pole and almost won the Russian gp but a wrong decision in wet condition's cost him the win but this year he can achieve a win and possibly challenge for the championship Mclaren are one of the team's that hope that the new regulations will allow them to get back on to the top of grid and they are most likely to do so and Norris will posibly be the one to challenge for the championship.
